3D Object Task
Add Your 3D Buildings
In this lecture, you will learn how to add 3D objects — such as untextured or textured buildings — to your map project using the VC Publisher.
Adding 3D objects is a key step in building your Digital Twin, representing the built environment in three dimensions.
Depending on your data, the buildings can be:
-
Untextured models – simple 3D geometry, ideal for structural analysis or spatial calculations.
-
Textured models – detailed buildings with facade and roof textures, bringing your model closer to a realistic appearance.
This process supports both analytical use cases (such as energy or shadow analysis) and visually engaging presentations.
What You Will Learn
-
How to configure the 3D Object Task in the VC Publisher
-
How to prepare and convert untextured building models
-
How to prepare and convert textured building models
-
How to preview your 3D objects and check alignment
Steps Overview
-
Open the VC Publisher and go to the home section of your project.
-
Select the "New 3D Object Task".
-
Add a name and description for your layer.
-
Reference your 3D object files in CityGML or CityJSON formats using default settings, and check the applied zoom levels, LoD information, and texture settings.
-
Preview the objects to verify correct placement and appearance.
-
Later, add these objects into your map using the App Configurator.
Check that your 3D models use the correct coordinate system and are properly aligned with your terrain and other layers. |
Textured buildings require texture image files (e.g., JPEG, PNG) to be stored in the correct folder structure referenced by the 3D model. |
