Terrain Task

Add Your Terrain Data

In the previous lectures, you learned how to prepare your Orthophoto base map using TMS Task and how to bring in oblique imageries.

In this task, we focus on adding terrain data, an important component for giving shape and elevation to your 3D map environment.

Terrain layers help you visualize elevation, slopes, and the physical surface of the area, providing a realistic base for 3D objects and analysis.

You will use the VC Publisher to process and prepare your terrain layer.

What You Will Learn

  • How to open and configure the Terrain Task in the VC Publisher

  • How to name and describe your terrain layer

  • How to upload your terrain data (e.g., Raster or OBJ formats)

  • How to preview and verify your terrain data alignment

Steps Overview

  1. Open the VC Publisher and go to the home section of your project.

  2. Select the "New Terrain Task".

  3. Add a name and description for your layer.

  4. Reference your terrain data files (e.g., TIFF, ASCII).

  5. Preview the terrain to ensure correct alignment and coverage.

  6. Later, you’ll add this terrain layer inside the App Configurator to use it in your map.

Make sure your terrain data uses the correct coordinate system to match your other layers.

Terrain layers improve the 3D visualization and analysis of your map by providing accurate elevation information.
