Clipping Tool

icon clippingHorizontal The Clipping tool of the VC Map allows you to view the interior of a 3D object. A vertical or horizontal clipping plane devides, for example, a building and hides the walls on one side of the plane.

The Clipping tool provides two different modes via the drop-down menu in the toolbar:

  • icon clippingHorizontal - horizontal clipping plane

  • icon clippingVertical - vertical clipping plane

Clicking on the icon activates the tool and opens the associated settings window.

Create clipping plane

A clipping plane is created by clicking on the map. Its size, position and orientation in relation to the terrain can then be freely and geometrically changed by setting the parameters listed below.

Clipping geometry can also be achieved by right-clicking icon mouse right in the map. Move the mouse pointer to the desired position on the map (3D) and press the right mouse button icon mouse right to select the desired clipping mode from the contextmenu.

The clipping geometry created can be removed again by clicking on the clipping tool in the toolbar.

Please note that the clipping plane tool cannot be used on a layer if the split tool has been activated on the same layer.

Overview of functions

UI / Setting Description

icon eye

Displays or hides the clipping geometry

icon editVertices

Allows to edit the vertices of the clipping geometry (only available in vertical mode)

icon axisArrow

Allows to move the clipping geometry along the X-, Y-, Z-axis and to manually enter:

  • X [m] - shift by x meters in the X direction

  • Y [m]* - shift by x meters in the Y direction

  • Z [m] - shift by x meters in the Z direction

icon rotate

Allows the rotation of the clipping geometry around the Z-axis and the manual input of:

  • x [°] - Rotation by x degrees counterclockwise

  • icon rotateLeft - Rotation by 90 degrees counterclockwise

  • icon rotateRightOrg - Rotation by 90 degrees clockwise

icon scale

Allows the scaling of the clipping geometry (only available in horizontal mode) along the X or Y axis and the manual input of:

  • X - scaling factor in X direction

  • Y - scaling factor in Y direction

Layer

Select the layer(s) to which the clipping is to be applied. Only layers that are currently active are available for selection.

Extrusion

Specify the extrusion height of the clipping geometry

  • horizontal mode - makes a box out of the clipping plane

  • vertical mode - enlarges / reduces the clipping plane

Infinity

Turns the area into a plane so that all objects are clipped

Globus

Displays the globe below the terrain

Invert

Swaps the visible area with the non-visible area

icon workspace plus

Places the object in "My workspace"

New

Restarts the clipping tool and prompts the user to enter a new position
