Line of Sight Tool
The line of sight analysis enables the user to display the line of sight between two user-defined points. The (partial) section of the line of sight that is visible from the viewpoint is displayed in green. The section of the line of sight that is obscured by objects or surfaces in the scene and is therefore not visible to the observer is shown in red.
Clicking the corresponding icon starts the analysis tool and opens the corresponding settings window.
Create line of sight
To initialize the line of sight, a checkbox is first used to select whether an observer offset, i.e. a vertical offset from the subsequently defined viewpoint, should be added to the viewpoint and at what height. This simulates, for example, the eye level of a person looking from the viewpoint in the target direction.
The position of the origin (viewpoint) of the line of sight is then defined with a first click on the map. A second click defines the position of the target , which determines the viewing direction.
After this input, the selected parameters are displayed in the settings window for further adjustments and interactions:
Option | Description |
---|---|
Viewpoint |
Jump to viewpoint: The map view jumps to the position of the viewpoint and aligns the camera in the direction of the target position. This allows the visual axis to be traced interactively. |
Position [of the viewpoint] |
Shows the coordinates of the position of the set viewpoint. These can be edited via manual input. |
Add observer offset |
Specifies the height of a vertical offset to the viewpoint, which affects the origin of the line of sight analysis. This option can be activated or deactivated via the checkbox. |
Target |
without action |
Position [of the target] |
Shows the coordinates of the position of the set target. These can be edited via manual input. |
By opening the line of sight tool, a temporary line of sight is created. The buttons in the footer of the window can be used to reset the settings or transfer them to My workspace.
Further information on this can be found at: Interaction with My Workspace. |
The complete actions available from the footer of the window are explained below:
..UI | Action | ||
---|---|---|---|
Adds the analysis result to MyWorkspace to display or edit it again during the active session, to create and compare multiple analyses, or to export them from there. |
|||
Recalculates the intersection between visible and non-visible based on a changed scene.
|
|||
NEW |
Discards the settings and starts a new analysis from scratch. |
Interaction with My Workspace
Each line of sight added to M Workspace is listed there in the Lines of sight section. Using the menu at the end of each entry, it is possible to - edit the properties of the analysis. - remove the analysis result from My Workspace . - to zoom to the extent of the view axis. - rename the item.
Export line of sight
Click on one or more items in My Workspace to select them. The selected elements can then be exported as GeoJSON via the menu of the line of sight section. This allows you to permanently save the analysis geometry beyond the current session or to pass it on to third parties.
This step is only intended to export the analysis geometry and set parameters. If the GeoJSON is imported into a scene, the visibility is always recalculated. To document the analysis results, use the sharing tool to copy the application link or use the JPG or PDF generator. |
